West Texas is a region in Texas that has more in common geographically with the Southwestern United States than it does with the rest of the state.. This part of Texas is in the Northern Chihuahuan Desert and the high mountain areas have a climate of cold nights and warm afternoons in winter; hot days and cool nights in the summer. PopulationWest Texas has a much lower population density than the rest of the state. It was once mostly inhabited by nomadic Native American tribes such as the Apache, Comanche, and Kiowa until after the Civil War. It does not have as many ties to other parts of the Southern United States as does East Texas, although many of the people who currently populate West Texas are also migrants from other parts of Texas and other Southern states or their descendants. There is a very large Hispanic population, especially near the Rio Grande. Many Mexicans fled Ojinaga and walked to Stonewall during the Mexican revolution in the early days of the 20th century. Many Mexican-Americans still have close family ties in Mexico. From Wikipedia under the

From Google News Search: "West Texas" Can you tell me which flowers are sturdy enought to stand West Texas heat, without much shade? Q. My daughter wants to have a flower pot garden on our patio, and that's fine with me, but i know i kill everything i put out there, and i hate to disappoint her right off the bat! So are there some flowers that can take the heat better than others? i never know how much to water or how often, and sturdier flowers just stand a better chance with us! Asked by i say it with luv - Fri Mar 6 13:04:45 2009 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments A. You can get Zinnias, Marigolds, West Texas Cobalt Sage (Salvia reptans) is really pretty too. There are some types of bluebonnet that you can plant in West Texas that is hardier than what you find near Dallas. If you have some shady areas you can get bachelors buttons, petunias, and some others. Here is a website that has some more ideas. Answered by enter name here - Fri Mar 6 13:58:30 2009 What is the best kind of plant to have in hanging baskets in WINDY West Texas? Q. I had the most beautiful Petunias hanging on my back patio, watered them, talked to them, fertilized them and the wind beat them up bad. They looked bad but I thought they might make it. Then Thursday we had another horrible dirt storm and they are dried out and no longer revivable. I just want my patio to be pretty with flowers (the ones in the pots on the patio are doing well, but the hanging baskets did not make it) Asked by icunurse85 - Sat Jun 7 22:40:28 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. Well, after living in San Angelo for the past five years until last year, and fighting dust storms, tumbleweeds, 30 - 50 mph gusts constantly; and after replacing them again & again. the solution I found was to buy some sturdy plastic vines & FLOWERS, anchored in green styrofoam balls, weighted with lead in the bottom of the basket, and wired in place with floral wire. All it takes is a brief hose-down after a dust storm, and they look like new. Answered by papaw - Sat Jun 7 22:53:44 2008 When is the best time of the year to plant crape myrtles.
