A. Look in the phone book for Stanley carpet cleaners and other local and see if it has coupons, if not ask them about coupons and when you talk to them, let them know you are only getting prices because you only have so much money and don't want them to do the job and you not able to pay them and then all hell will break loose. Rug Doctor is a very good rental cleaner if you have to do it yourself, invite some friends over and take turns, tell your guy friends it is heavy and you need him to show you how to work it, He'll take over, watch!

What is the best way to go from DC to Fredericksburg?
Q. I am a student at American University and I don't have a car. Is there some kind of cheap bus or something that can get me to Fredericksburg?

A. If you're traveling on weekdays, the Virginia Railway Express is worth looking at. You'd have to go from AU to Washington Union Station, but once there you could get on the train that ends in F'burg. Here's a link to their schedule: Some Amtrak trains (which also run on weekdays) also make the trip. Here's a link: Sorry, but I don't know about buses.

Are there any contemporary dance classes in Fredericksburg, VA?
Q. I have absolutely NO experience in dance whatsoever (except for some ballet lessons when I was little of which I remember nothing). But lately I've been wanting to get more into dancing and start learning more about it. The style I've been considering is contemporary. It puts you right in between downtown and Central Park (the large shopping plaza). It's not a bad town, and depending on your tastes there are some pretty good places to eat in downtown that arent named Chili's or TGIF's. Sammy T's is excellent for a quick lunch, and Spanky's has some pretty good food and an excellent night life during the summer. Hiperion has some pretty good coffee if you dont want to venture out to Starbucks. Does anyone know what parking is like at the Fredericksburg VRE station during the day?
Q. I live in Southern Virginia and was thinking the next time I drive up to DC it might be worth parking the car at the Fredericksburg VRE station and getting the train in...it would be less hassle with traffic and parking...but I looked on the VRE website and it said they only have 644 parking spaces! A. My sister lives in Fredericksburg so I've taken the VRE to her house a number of times. Fredericksburg is becoming a very popular place for DC commuters to live. The VRE site is right that there is a lot adjacent to the VRE stop and it fills up very quickly. There is street parking, but as far as I can remember, they are metered so they wouldn't work for you if you're going to be in DC all day. My advice would be to time your trip so that you take the very first train to DC that morning, although it leaves VERY early (something like 5:30 or 6:00 a.m.). That would greatly improve your chances of getting a spot in the lot. You probably know this but the VRE does not run on the weekends, just Monday-Friday. If you want to take the… [cont.]

A. The Battle of Fredericksburg, fought in and around Fredericksburg, Virginia, from December 11 to December 15, 1862, between General Robert E. Lee's Confederate Army of Northern Virginia and the Union Army of the Potomac, commanded by Maj. Gen. Ambrose E. Burnside, is remembered as one of the most one-sided battles of the American Civil War. The Union Army suffered terrible casualties in futile frontal assaults on December 13 against entrenched Confederate defenders on the heights behind the city, bringing to an early end their campaign against the Confederate capital of Richmond.

A. If your area is not being developed faster than three miles a day relax and enjoy it once the developers come in you won't be able to afford to live there and you'll have to move to a place without them or you will be paved over. Sounds like you are lucky to be in a place where there is still sanity.

A. While it has some points of interest, Fredericksburg is quite a distance off your route, and the only reasonable way to get there from DC is via I-95, a nasty drive. I would omit it from the itinerary . My preference would be to drive to Front Royal and then take Skyline Drive (must pay to enter the National Park) to Charottesville-Staunton, then Instead of driving I-81 between Charlottesville and southern Virginia, drive the Blue Ridge Parkway at least as far as Roanoke. The best part of the Parkway is in North Carolina, but the section in VA is a great drive. If you decide to drive through the valley instead of the Skyline Drive-Parkway route, catch US-11 for much of the way. It is an old highway and does not carry too much traffic. It… [cont.]

What was the point of The Battle of Fredericksburg in 1862?
Q. I know that it was between the confederates and union during the civil war but why did the fight there and what was the point?
Asked by bighairedchicka - Sun May 17 20:10:48 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The idea was always to outflank the Confederates and conquer Richmond. If Richmond fell, then the the Confederacy fell. What made Fredericksburg unique is that in Fredericksburg, the Union Army under General Ambrose Burnside (aka..the guy with the side burns...wink..wink...that 's where the term came from) actually did it! Burnside outfoxed Lee and had an excellent chance of outflanking Lee and making Lee chase him to Richmond. All he had to do was cross the Rappahannock River and put his army on the march and he'd have won. There was the problem. Burnside moved faster than his Engineering Corp could get the pontoons over to cross the river. Burnside waited. That was the mistake. Lee caught up, mounted a defense. Union disaster.
